Saudi Overtime Calculator — The Article 107 Formula, Done Properly
Saudi overtime is not a simple "1.5× salary". Article 107 of the Labour Law pays each overtime hour at your actual hourly wage plus 50% of your basic hourly wage — two different salary bases. This calculator does it the legal way.

When the extra pay lands, move it home at a real exchange rate instead of a bank's marked-up one — compare first.
The Article 107 formula
- Hourly wage (actual) = monthly total salary ÷ 240
- Hourly wage (basic) = monthly basic salary ÷ 240
- Overtime rate per hour = actual hourly wage + 50% of basic hourly wage
- 240 = 30 days × 8 standard working hours
- Rest-day and public-holiday hours are paid at the same overtime rate
Worked example
Khalid's total salary is SAR 9,600, basic SAR 6,000. He works 20 overtime hours.
Actual hourly = 9,600 ÷ 240 = SAR 40 · Basic hourly = 6,000 ÷ 240 = SAR 25
Overtime rate = 40 + (50% × 25) = SAR 52.50/hour
Overtime pay = 20 × 52.50 = SAR 1,050
Frequently asked questions
How is overtime calculated in Saudi Arabia?
Under Article 107 of the Saudi Labour Law, each overtime hour is paid at your actual hourly wage plus 50% of your basic hourly wage. Hourly wages are found by dividing the monthly salary by 240 (30 days × 8 working hours).
Why does Saudi overtime use both total and basic salary?
Article 107 has two parts: the hour itself is paid at the actual (total) hourly wage, and the overtime premium is 50% of the basic hourly wage. So your overtime rate = (total monthly ÷ 240) + 0.5 × (basic monthly ÷ 240).
Are rest-day and holiday hours paid at the same overtime rate in Saudi Arabia?
Yes — hours worked on weekly rest days and official holidays are treated as overtime and paid at the same Article 107 rate, unless compensated with substitute rest days under the rules.
What are the normal working hours in Saudi Arabia?
The standard is 8 hours per day, 48 hours per week (reduced to 6 hours per day during Ramadan for Muslim employees). Hours beyond your scheduled standard are overtime.
Can my employer make me work unlimited overtime in Saudi Arabia?
No. Total working time including overtime is subject to legal limits, and overtime generally requires the employee's agreement except in defined emergencies. Persistent unpaid overtime can be reported to the Ministry of Human Resources (MHRSD).
